Creatine (methyl-guanidine-acetate) was first isolated from meat by a French chemist and philosopher Michele Eugene Chevreul in 1832. He named his discovery creatine, a reference to the Greek kreas, meat.
Around 60-70% of the creatine content of our organelles is in the form of free creatine, with the remainder in the so-called phosphorised form.
Creatine has been shown to enhance athletic performance and is therefore one of the most popular supplements for weight training. Creatine enhances physical performance during short bursts of high-intensity exercise at doses of at least 3 grams per day*.
